Outreach
Local Outreach
Members
of the collective share their time and wisdom to reach out to specific
groups to share knowledge of women's birth passages, particularly
in regard to the midwifery model of care. Recent presentations have
taken place at high schools, colleges and universities, teenage pregnancy support
groups, and family-focused non-profits. As part of a larger culture,
the collective believes that we should honor the impact of birth on
both individual women and on our society as a whole and support mothers
at any stage with their available choices. Childbirth options as a
feminist issue are sometimes critical to women's abilities to make
informed choices not only about what occurs on the day they give birth
but also about the level of empowerment they will bring to parenting
for the rest of their lives. In addition, on the college track, women
are usually unaware of the choice for midwifery as a career option, so
the collective targets both Women's Studies and Pre-Med students to get
the word out about midwifery and childbirth choices.

Global Outreach Several
members of our collective have traveled or plan to travel abroad to
foreign countries in need of safe medical care. Some areas with
midwifery programs include
Senegal, Guatemala, and Bali. Members of our collective volunteer their
time to assist local
midwives in these under-funded and under-staffed birth centers. Each
volunteer trip costs thousands of dollars. If you or an organization
that you work with is interested in sponsoring a practitioner to
participate in one of these global programs, bringing traditional
midwifery care to foreign countries in need, please contact us at outreach@the-womb.org or 323-595-4006. . |
